Description

About the client

Gurans Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited is a publicly listed microfinance institution in Nepal. For a regulated financial company, the website is more than a brochure. Customers use it to learn about loan and savings products and to find a branch. Shareholders and regulators expect to find reports and notices there. Job seekers use it to apply for openings. If the site is down or compromised, that damages trust in the institution itself.

The problem

The institution came to us with a WordPress site that had stopped working properly. Three problems stacked on top of each other:

  • The site was infected with malware. Visitors could not rely on it, and the team had lost confidence in publishing anything to it.
  • It was slow and often unresponsive. Pages took too long to load, especially on mobile connections, which is how most customers in Nepal reach the web.
  • Content was hard to manage. Posting a notice or an annual report meant fighting the old setup, and every fix risked breaking something else.

Patching the old site would have meant paying for the same cleanup again the next time a plugin went out of date. The better answer was to remove the cause.

Our approach

1. Contain and clean

Before any redesign work, we cleaned the infected site and hardened the server so the existing content was safe to migrate. Taking this step first meant no compromised files or database entries followed the client onto the new platform.

2. Plan the content and structure

We audited every page, notice, report and form on the old site. We grouped them into a structure that works for the people who actually visit a microfinance website: customers comparing products, shareholders looking for reports, and applicants looking for jobs. We also mapped every old URL so search visibility would carry over to the new site.

3. Design for a financial institution

The visual design is clean, corporate and easy to scan. Product pages, branch information and downloads are never more than a couple of clicks away. The layout is responsive and tested on the phones and screen sizes the institution's customers use.

4. Build on Next.js

We moved away from WordPress and built the front end in Next.js. Pages are rendered on the server and served fast, there is no plugin stack to keep patching, and the attack surface is far smaller than a typical WordPress install.

5. Build a CMS the team can run themselves

We set up Sanity as the content platform and wrote custom studio schemas so the editing screens match how the institution works. Staff can manage:

  • Notices, news and reports
  • A downloads center for annual reports and forms
  • Branch and ATM locations
  • Loan and savings product pages, including rate tables
  • Job openings and job application forms
  • Role-based admin access, so each team member sees only what they need

Content editors publish on their own. They no longer need to wait for a developer to post a notice.

6. Nepali and English content

The site runs in both Nepali and English, so customers in towns and villages can read product details in the language they are comfortable with, while shareholders and partners can use the English version.

7. Migrate, redirect and launch

We moved the existing content and data across, set up 301 redirects from old URLs to their new equivalents, configured on-page SEO, and handled hosting, SSL and DNS. The launch kept the institution's existing search presence intact.

Results

  • Speed: Page load time and PageSpeed performance improved sharply compared with the old WordPress site.
  • Security: The malware is gone, and there has been no reinfection since launch.
  • Independence: The institution's staff publish notices, reports and product updates without developer help.
  • Search visibility: Organic visibility has grown since the new site went live.
  • Mobile and language: The site is fully responsive and bilingual.
  • Client satisfaction: The client is extremely satisfied, and they continue to work with us on a maintenance retainer.

Client feedback

Gurans Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited described the work this way: they felt listened to, the project was delivered on time, and the website performs better than they expected.

Why this approach works for financial institutions in Nepal

A hacked or slow website is a trust problem before it is a technical one. Moving from WordPress to Next.js with Sanity removes the most common failure points: outdated plugins, shared themes and fragile admin panels. Pairing that with a CMS shaped around the institution's own content (notices, rate tables, branch data, forms) keeps day-to-day publishing in the hands of the people who own the content.

If your organisation is a bank, cooperative, microfinance company or other regulated body in Nepal, the same approach applies: secure infrastructure, a clear content structure and an editing experience your own staff can use.

Frequently asked questions

Can you rebuild a hacked WordPress website in Nepal?
Yes. We clean and contain the infection first, then rebuild on a more secure stack so the problem does not return.

Do you build bilingual Nepali and English websites?
Yes. We structure the CMS so content can be managed in both languages without duplicating work.

Will we lose our Google rankings when we move from WordPress to Next.js?
Not if the migration is planned properly. We map old URLs to new ones with 301 redirects and carry over on-page SEO before launch.

Can our staff update the website without a developer?
Yes. We build the CMS around your own content types and set up role-based access so each person manages only their part of the site.

Do you offer support after launch?
Yes. Gurans Laghubitta continues to work with us on a maintenance retainer.
