Why Pokhara Businesses Need More Than a Generic Website

Pokhara's tourism and hospitality economy supports businesses well beyond Lakeside hotels. Pokhara Metropolitan City figures for 2023, cited in a study published on Nepal Journals Online, count 5,304 tourism and hospitality businesses employing 19,489 people and place tourism and hospitality at 18% of the city's economy. Yet no full survey measures digital adoption among Pokhara accommodation businesses. A 2022 FNCCI survey, cited in a Nepal Journals Online paper, found that 75% of businesses across all sectors in Nepal recognised the importance of digital marketing, while 45% actively used it. Those figures cover all sectors, not hospitality alone.

One industry expert quoted in a Nepal Journals Online article estimates that over two thirds of Pokhara's tourist bookings happen by phone, social media or independent travel rather than through booking platforms. This is an industry estimate, not a survey result. Guests may discover a hotel through Booking.com or Agoda, or find a paragliding operator through Viator or GetYourGuide, then contact the business on WhatsApp to ask about room views, availability, safety details or a direct rate. Booking.com typically charges 10% to 25% commission, while Agoda is typically about 15%. A mobile-first hotel website gives those conversations an official destination, with clear information and an enquiry route that reaches your email or WhatsApp.

An illustrative hotel calculation shows the scale of the commission question, not a forecast for any particular property. A 20-room Lakeside hotel charging NPR 4,000 per room-night at 70% occupancy over 90 peak-season days would generate approximately NPR 5,040,000 in room revenue. If 40% of that revenue came through Booking.com at an illustrative 15% commission, the commission would be about NPR 302,400. For comparison, a Standard Website at NPR 79,999 plus 12 months of the Grow plan at NPR 3,999 a month totals NPR 127,987. A direct booking website is an investment in a booking channel you control, although it has build and ongoing costs. Actual savings depend on rates, occupancy and how many bookings move to the direct channel.

An illustrative adventure-sports calculation, also not a forecast, shows the same issue for operators. A paragliding operator running five flights a day at NPR 6,000 per flight over 90 peak-season days would pay approximately NPR 729,000 in Viator commission at 27%; GetYourGuide's typical commission range is 20% to 30%. Both platforms can still help guests discover the operator. The aim is to build a direct channel alongside them.

The right website also needs to reflect the place: a hotel needs room photography, Phewa Tal or Annapurna views and a clear booking path, while a Sarangkot paragliding operator needs safety information, details of the sunrise experience and a mobile-friendly enquiry flow. AlpineRoot builds for the wider visitor economy, including guesthouses, resorts and villas, restaurants and cafés, travel and trekking agencies, wellness retreats, photographers, guides and boat operators. It builds them under its website development in Nepal service and handles search visibility through local SEO. AlpineRoot has delivered 20+ web development projects and 10+ SEO projects across Australia, Nepal and the USA, in 10+ industries, including travel, education, technology, restaurants, fashion, ecommerce, moving services, finance, hotels and portfolio sites. Examples from other industries appear further down this page.

Three checks before you commission any Pokhara website

  • Read the rate and price terms in your OTA contracts before advertising a direct-booking discount. Your contract may affect how you can price direct bookings.
  • Keep opening hours, prices and contact details consistent across Google, your website and OTA listings. Check seasonal and monsoon off-season hours as well.
  • Plan backwards from the booking seasons. Pokhara's peak periods typically run from September to November and March to May. A typical build takes 2 to 4 weeks after the required content is supplied, so begin in July for a September launch and in January for a March launch.

How AlpineRoot Fills the Gap

01

From Platform Listings to Direct Bookings

AlpineRoot builds mobile-first websites with room or experience details and a booking enquiry that goes directly to your email and WhatsApp. eSewa and Fonepay payment can be added as a custom integration on the Business WP Site, Advanced WP Site and Premium Website packages, while international payment integration is subject to merchant eligibility. Your website works alongside Booking.com, Agoda, Viator or GetYourGuide listings, which can continue to bring discovery traffic. Guests who already know your property have another way to enquire or book without returning to the platform.

02

Found on Google, Not Only on Platforms

AlpineRoot provides SEO covering on-page optimisation, local SEO and Google Business Profile work for searches that Pokhara guests actually use, such as hotels near Phewa Lake and Lakeside guesthouses. Published SEO packages are Starter at NPR 19,999, Professional at NPR 34,999 and Enterprise at NPR 59,999 per month. SEO takes time, and no search ranking is promised. The goal is to give potential guests another route to discover your business.

03

A Website and Photography That Show the Place

For a business without a website, or with an outdated one, AlpineRoot offers landing pages from NPR 9,999, a Basic WP Site from NPR 19,999 and a Basic Website from NPR 34,999, typically suited to a small mobile-friendly site with a contact form and WhatsApp button. An optional monthly plan starts at NPR 1,999. When existing photographs undersell a property or experience, AlpineRoot coordinates a photography and drone shoot through its partner, Laggyshutter. Older websites can also be rebuilt with SEO set up from the start. The result is a clearer online destination for guests who need to understand the offer before contacting the business.

What AlpineRoot Builds for Pokhara

01

Hotel Website Development

AlpineRoot builds hotel websites around mobile browsing, room details and a clear route to a booking enquiry. A WhatsApp contact button is part of every build, and eSewa or Fonepay payments can be added as a custom integration on the packages that include integrations.

02

Resort Website Development

Resorts around Pokhara, including properties facing Sarangkot and the surrounding valley, need websites that present their rooms, facilities and setting clearly. AlpineRoot can build a room gallery and booking flow, with international payment integration subject to merchant eligibility.

03

Adventure Sports Website

Paragliding, rafting, zip-line and bungee operators need to explain the experience, safety arrangements, itinerary and booking requirements before a guest commits. AlpineRoot builds mobile-friendly experience pages with booking enquiries and WhatsApp contact, giving guests a direct route alongside Viator and GetYourGuide listings.

04

Villa Website Development

Pokhara villas and boutique guesthouses listed on Airbnb or Booking.com can add a website that presents their private spaces, facilities and lake views directly. AlpineRoot can build a mobile-friendly property gallery and direct booking enquiry route to complement existing platform listings.

05

Hotel SEO Pokhara

A hotel website needs ongoing SEO work if potential guests are to discover it through relevant searches. AlpineRoot's hotel SEO service covers search phrases such as hotels near Phewa Lake and Lakeside Pokhara guesthouses, along with Google Business Profile optimisation.

06

Café and Restaurant Websites

Cafés and restaurants around Lakeside and Damside need menus, prices, opening hours and contact details that guests can check before visiting. AlpineRoot can build a website with a readable menu, WhatsApp ordering enquiries and eSewa or Fonepay QR payment information where appropriate.

Professional Photography for Pokhara Properties

Pokhara is a visual destination, from Phewa Tal and the Annapurna range to Sarangkot sunrise and Lakeside evenings. For a hotel or resort, guests need to see the rooms, facilities and surroundings before deciding whether to enquire. A well-planned room photograph, a balcony view or an aerial image of the property can answer questions that a short description cannot.

AlpineRoot works with Laggyshutter.com, a Nepal-based photography and drone team whose website AlpineRoot built. For Pokhara hotel, resort and villa projects, a Laggyshutter shoot can be added to the website project. The work can include aerial drone footage of the property and surroundings, room and facilities photography, and exterior shots. AlpineRoot coordinates the partnership, while Laggyshutter provides the photography directly.

When professional photographs are ready before development begins, AlpineRoot can plan the site around those images. If a new shoot is needed, a Laggyshutter session can be scheduled alongside the build so the photography and website can be prepared for launch together.

What We Have Done in Other Industries, and What It Means for Pokhara

01
dream international travels and tour hero section

Travel and Tourism: Dream International Travel & Tours

AlpineRoot built the platform for Dream International Travel & Tours on Next.js and React, using a headless CMS, Supabase-backed media storage, a custom booking and ticketing system, lead collection and some SEO-optimised pages. For travel and booking projects, we start by mapping the guest's route from the first visit to confirmation and agreeing what information the booking needs. We keep form fields limited, show an editable booking summary before payment and provide a quote request for larger groups. A Pokhara hotel, trekking agency or adventure operator needs the same clear route from an initial enquiry to a confirmed booking.

02
awesome mate removals hero section

Moving Services: NP Movers and Awesome Mate Removals, Australia

For NP Movers, AlpineRoot built a Next.js website with 113 suburb pages and 30 route pages. For Awesome Mate Removals, AlpineRoot built a 12-page long-distance service cluster consisting of one hub and eleven destination pages, with parent and child page features in the CMS. We plan service-business websites by agreeing the service area, quote requirements and price factors before creating the page structure. We add a location page only when it has genuinely local information, never a template with a changed place name. Pokhara can use the same discipline for a hub with separate service pages for hotels, resorts and adventure sports.

03
ds autolink hero section

Electric Scooter Dealership: DS AutoLink, Nepal

AlpineRoot built DS AutoLink's website on WordPress and Elementor and worked on the Google Business Profiles for both of its showrooms. The Google Business Profile work covered descriptions, services and WhatsApp as the chat channel, plus an audit of hours, addresses and phone numbers across Google and the website. For a business with multiple outlets, we check that each location has its own appropriate profile and that contact details match across Google, the website and relevant listings. Pokhara businesses with more than one location or seasonal opening hours face the same need for consistency. Guests should not have to work out which address or opening time is correct.

04
lunera ecommerce branding hero section

Ecommerce, Branding and SEO: Lunera, Nepal

Lunera is a Nepal-based handmade soap and candle brand for which AlpineRoot delivered the ecommerce website, branding and full SEO. The online shop contains 53 products, including nine soaps and 44 candles, and was built on Next.js and Supabase with on-site checkout alongside WhatsApp ordering. The site includes shipping and returns information, a privacy policy, terms and conditions, and a seasonal gift page for Dashain and Tihar. We plan ecommerce projects by settling payment, delivery and returns terms before launch, then checking product information and structured data. Pokhara businesses accepting online bookings or orders need equally clear cancellation and refund terms, with seasonal pages prepared ahead of busy periods.

05
gurans lagubitta website

Finance and Microfinance: Gurans Laghubitta, Nepal

AlpineRoot built a multilingual website for Gurans Laghubitta on Next.js with Sanity CMS. A testimonial published on AlpineRoot's website states that the project was delivered on time. For finance projects, we ask the client's qualified staff to confirm rates, terms and product details before publication, and keep company and contact information easy to find. This accuracy-first approach matters because incorrect financial information can have serious consequences. For Pokhara hotels, resorts and travel agencies receiving international enquiries, a multilingual website can also make essential information easier for guests to understand.

06
laggy shutter hero section

Photography and Gallery: Laggyshutter

AlpineRoot built the Laggyshutter portfolio and gallery website on Next.js with Sanity CMS. For image-led websites, we agree which work should lead the site, organise the images clearly and use descriptive file names and alt text. We also check that pages load efficiently on mobile, where guests may be browsing while travelling. Laggyshutter is the photography and drone team AlpineRoot coordinates for Pokhara hotel, resort and villa projects. Planning the photography and the website together helps the finished site present the property and its setting consistently.

How We Approach Restaurants, Education and Fashion

01

Restaurants and Cafés

AlpineRoot built a website for Newa Bhoye, a catering and restaurant business in Australia, using WordPress and Elementor. For a restaurant or café, we begin by agreeing the main purpose of the website: orders, table reservations or catering enquiries. We put the menu on the page as readable text with visible prices, keep the address, phone number and opening hours consistent, and make sure the Google profile's menu link points to the full menu rather than a delivery app. For a Pokhara café around Lakeside or Damside, clear menu information and matching Google details help guests decide where to eat.

02

Schools, Colleges and Training Providers

AlpineRoot has redesigned a website for EduCampaign, an education client. For an education provider, the discovery meeting settles who the website must serve, what students and parents need to decide, and how an enquiry becomes an admission. We then organise separate paths for different audiences and create an admissions page with steps, deadlines and a document checklist, alongside clearly stated fees and a short mobile-friendly enquiry form. Programme descriptions explain what is taught and by whom, while outcomes appear only when the provider can substantiate them. For schools serving students aged 6 to 18, Google disables profile reviews, so a school's own website needs to carry clear and accurate information.

03

Fashion and Handicraft Sellers

AlpineRoot has served the fashion industry. For a fashion or handicraft seller, we settle the product range, sizing or fit information, photography plan, payment arrangements and delivery and returns terms before building. We show clothing on people where appropriate and put size and fit details before the purchase step. Product colours and sizes are organised as variants with their own identifiers and URLs so the correct image, price and stock information can be displayed. For a Pokhara seller of Himalayan clothing or handmade goods, this clarity helps visitors understand what they can order when they cannot inspect an item in person.

04

Technology Companies

AlpineRoot built a web design project for SummitBytes LLC using Next.js and Sanity CMS. For a technology company, the discovery meeting establishes what the business sells, who buys it and why those buyers should choose it over alternatives. The homepage then answers four questions in plain language: what the company does, why it matters, whether the service suits the reader and why the company is a credible choice. We tailor messages to the industries the business serves and include case studies or testimonials only where genuine supporting evidence exists. For a Pokhara software or IT company selling to clients elsewhere, the website may be the first substantial introduction a prospective buyer receives.

05

Portfolio Sites for Guides, Photographers and Creatives

Beyond the Laggyshutter website described above, the team has built other portfolio sites. We begin by agreeing the niche, the three to five services offered and the kind of client the owner wants to attract. We set up each project entry as a short case study covering the challenge, the work completed and the result, with testimonials alongside relevant work where they exist. We also agree who will add new projects later and use descriptive image information while keeping pages fast on mobile. For guides, photographers and designers in Pokhara, a clear portfolio helps prospective customers assess the work before making an enquiry.

How a Pokhara Project Runs

01

Discovery Meeting

Every project starts with a meeting of about 30 minutes by WhatsApp or Zoom to understand what you actually want before anything is designed. We discuss the site's purpose, your guests, how bookings reach you today, which platforms you use, who will update the site and how you will measure success. We confirm the agreed deliverables in writing afterwards.

02

Proposal

Within 2 to 3 working days of the meeting, we send a proposal covering the agreed deliverables, site structure, design direction, suitable package and proposed timeline. You can review what is included before the build begins.

03

Build

A typical build takes 2 to 4 weeks from the confirmed deposit, once photographs, descriptions and prices are supplied. A smaller build, such as a landing page or Basic Website, can take 1 to 2 weeks, while a very large or complex build can take several months including testing, depending on scope. Sites are built with Next.js and Sanity CMS and hosted on Vercel.

04

Review

You review the website using a shared staging link and send changes through WhatsApp or email. This gives you a chance to check the pages and supplied information before the site goes live.

05

Launch and Handover

The website goes live on your own domain and is handed over to you. CMS training is included on every package that includes a CMS. If the project includes Laggyshutter photography, the shoot can be scheduled alongside the build.

Working with AlpineRoot from Pokhara

AlpineRoot Technologies is based in Chandragiri-12, Kathmandu, and works with Pokhara businesses remotely. Day-to-day communication takes place through WhatsApp and email, with direct contact with the team rather than an overseas subcontractor or a support-ticket system. You receive a reply within one business day, and and free post-launch monitoring and support are included with every project. After the included support period, an optional monthly plan of NPR 1,999, 3,999 or 7,999 covers backups and security updates, small content edits each month and support requests.

The remote relationship is designed to keep decisions and communication straightforward. The team shares work through a staging link during development and stays in contact as the project progresses. The process gives you a direct line to the people building the website, without requiring a visit to a Pokhara office. In-person meetings are available for Kathmandu clients only.

AlpineRoot works with the full range of Pokhara's visitor economy, from accommodation and restaurants to travel and trekking agencies, adventure sports operators and creative businesses. You can review examples from Australia and Nepal in our portfolio, including the Dream International Travel & Tours platform and the Laggyshutter photography website.

Questions About Pokhara Digital Services

AlpineRoot works with businesses across Nepal, including Pokhara, through a remote process. Discovery calls take place by WhatsApp or Zoom, and the proposal, build and review are handled remotely. The team communicates through WhatsApp and email throughout. In-person meetings are available for Kathmandu clients only.
