Website Development Cost in Nepal 2026

website development cost in Nepal image

TL;DR: how much does a website cost in Nepal?

Most business websites in Nepal cost between NPR 35,000 and NPR 160,000 to build. A simple landing page can cost as little as NPR 10,000. An online store usually costs NPR 50,000 to NPR 300,000. A custom web application starts around NPR 300,000 and can pass NPR 1,500,000 (15 lakh).

Those numbers are only the build. In year one, plan to add NPR 15,000 to NPR 60,000 for domain, hosting and email, NPR 24,000 to NPR 180,000 for maintenance if you want someone looking after the site, and 13% VAT on the development invoice if the vendor is VAT registered.

Five things that move the price most: the number of pages, how custom the design is, the technology (WordPress or custom code), special features such as payments and booking, and who builds it (student freelancer, experienced freelancer or agency).

The honest advice: do not choose on price alone. A NPR 8,000 website that you cannot edit, cannot move, and that loads in eight seconds costs more than a NPR 60,000 site that works. Ask for an itemised quote, confirm you will own the domain and files, and read the section on hidden costs before signing.

How much does a website cost in Nepal?

A website in Nepal costs NPR 10,000 to NPR 1,500,000 or more, and that range is not a typo. The word "website" covers a one-page landing page and a booking platform with user accounts, and those are different products.

The quickest way to place yourself is to answer three questions:

  1. How many pages or screens do you need? Five pages and fifty pages are different projects.
  2. Do customers only read, or do they also act? Reading is cheap. Paying, booking, logging in and uploading are where the cost sits.
  3. Will you edit it yourself? A content management system (CMS) such as WordPress adds some cost up front and saves you money every month after.

If you want the short version for each budget:

Your budget (NPR)

What it realistically buys

Under 15,000

A template site or landing page, usually from a beginner freelancer or a builder. Fine for a test, risky for a business you depend on.

15,000 to 40,000

A clean 3 to 5 page WordPress or custom-coded site with a contact form and basic SEO setup.

40,000 to 100,000

A proper business website, 7 to 10 pages, CMS and blog, on-page SEO, analytics.

100,000 to 300,000

A custom-designed site or a real online store with payments and inventory.

300,000 and above

Custom features: booking engines, dashboards, user roles, integrations.

One note on numbers. Nepali readers often think in lakh. 1 lakh is NPR 100,000, so NPR 1.5 lakh is NPR 150,000. We write amounts in the format used on our pricing page, for example NPR 159,999.

Cost by type of website

The type of site is the biggest single driver. The ranges below combine published Nepal price guides, quotes we see in the market and our own project history. Treat them as ranges, not fixed prices. Where we publish a price ourselves, it is shown in the next section.

Marketplace feeds, ERP or accounting links

Multi-vendor marketplace

400,000 to 1,500,000+

12 to 24 weeks

Mobile apps, logistics integrations

Booking or portal system

300,000 to 800,000

8 to 20 weeks

Accounts, bookings, admin panel, notifications

Channel managers, SMS, payment settlement

Custom web application / SaaS

500,000 to 1,500,000+

12 to 36 weeks

Product design, backend, auth, admin, testing

Ongoing development, cloud costs

Two things to notice.

Cost is not linear. Going from a 5-page site to a 10-page site might add 40% to the price. Going from a brochure site to a booking system can multiply the price by five, because you are no longer building pages, you are building software.

Timeline is part of the price. Developers who are good are usually busy. If you need the site in two weeks instead of six, expect to pay a rush premium, commonly 20% to 40%.

Cost per page: a rough yardstick

Some buyers ask for a price per page. We do not quote that way, because a page with a contact form costs far less than a page with a pricing calculator. But the arithmetic from published package prices is a useful sanity check.

What decides the price of a website

Six factors do most of the work. Understanding them lets you read any quote, ours included.

1. Design approach

Approach

Typical cost impact (NPR)

Good for

Trade-off

Template or theme, lightly edited

5,000 to 20,000

Tight budgets, quick launches

Looks like other sites using the same theme

Semi-custom (theme plus custom sections)

20,000 to 60,000

Most small businesses

Some layout limits

Fully custom UI and UX

60,000 to 150,000

Brands that compete on design

Longer timeline, more revisions

A custom design is not automatically a better design. A clean template with good photography and clear writing often beats a custom design with weak content. The money is best spent where visitors make decisions: the homepage, the service pages and the contact path.

2. Technology

Technology

Typical build range (NPR)

Strong for

Watch out for

Static HTML and CSS

10,000 to 40,000

One-page sites, very fast pages

You cannot edit it without a developer

WordPress

15,000 to 140,000

Business sites, blogs, small stores

Plugin sprawl, slow hosting, security updates

WooCommerce on WordPress

50,000 to 300,000

Small and mid-size stores

Needs good hosting and regular updates

Shopify

30,000 to 80,000 plus monthly fees

Simple stores with international shipping

Recurring platform fees, limited local gateway support

Next.js or React with a headless CMS

150,000 to 800,000+

Fast, custom sites and dashboards

Needs developers for changes, higher build cost

Laravel or other custom backend

100,000 to 1,000,000+

Portals, SaaS, booking systems

Highest build and maintenance cost

The right question is not "which is best?" but "which is the cheapest option that will still work in three years?" A restaurant does not need a custom backend. A marketplace does not belong on a theme. We go deeper on the WordPress side in WordPress website cost in Nepal.

3. Number of pages and templates

Cost grows with the number of unique page layouts, not the number of pages. A blog with 200 posts uses one template. A site with 12 different service layouts needs 12 designs.

Pages

Typical range (NPR)

4. Features and integrations

This is where quotes diverge. Indicative add-on costs, on top of the base build:

Calendar, availability, confirmations

User accounts and dashboards

60,000 to 250,000

Login, roles, profile pages

SMS or email notification integration

10,000 to 30,000

Plus per-message gateway fees

Third party API (CRM, accounting, maps, shipping)

20,000 to 100,000 each

Depends on how good the API is

Product catalogue bulk upload

5,000 to 25,000

Advanced SEO and schema setup

10,000 to 50,000

See on-page SEO and technical SEO

These are estimates from typical scoping, not a rate card. The same feature can cost half or double depending on how it is built.

If your customers pay online in Nepal, local payment support matters more than design. A store that cannot take eSewa or Khalti payments loses sales that a better theme would never win back.

5. Content: words, photos, video

Nobody budgets for this, and it often becomes the biggest delay.

Content item

Typical cost (NPR)

Copywriting per page (English)

If your brand identity is not settled, fix that before the website. A brand identity built after the site forces a redesign.

6. Who builds it and how fast

Freelancer vs agency vs website builder

You have three routes. None is always right.

Some blunt observations after building sites in Nepal:

  • A freelancer is often the right choice for a straightforward site. A good one is cheaper than an agency and just as capable for simple work.
  • An agency earns its price when more than one skill is involved, for example design, development, SEO and hosting under one contract, or when you need someone to be accountable for a deadline.
  • DIY builders are fine for a first version. The catch is that you rent the site. Leave the platform and you rebuild from scratch.
  • The cheapest quotes tend to leave out the unglamorous work: testing on real phones, speed optimisation, redirects, backups, handover and training.

If you are still comparing companies, our comparison of the best web development companies in Nepal lists what to check and how reviews on Clutch, GoodFirms and The Manifest compare.

Ongoing costs: domain, hosting, SSL, email, maintenance

The build is a one-time cost. These are not. Budget for them from day one.

Domain names

Domain

Typical annual cost (NPR)

.com.np

.np, .org.np

Depends on type

Requires registration documents

Two cautions. First, a 2025 draft bill proposed charging for .np domains and moving administration away from Mercantile, so check the current policy at register.com.np before you assume the free price still holds. Second, always register the domain in your own name or your company's name, never the developer's. Many disputes start here.

A .com.np looks local and costs nothing, but many Nepali businesses also buy the .com and redirect one to the other so nobody else can take the matching name.

Hosting

Hosting type

Annual cost (NPR)

Suits

Shared hosting, Nepal data centre

2,000 to 8,000

Small brochure sites

Cloud hosting (AWS, DigitalOcean, Vercel and similar)

20,000 to 200,000+

Custom apps, high traffic

Dedicated server

100,000+

Large organisations

Cheap hosting is where many NPR 15,000 websites quietly fail. If your customers are in Nepal, pages should load quickly on mobile data in Kathmandu and outside it. Ask where the site is hosted, whether there is a CDN, and who restores it if it goes down. If you ever move hosts, read our website migration checklist first so you do not lose email during DNS changes.

SSL certificate

Free certificates (Let's Encrypt) are fine for most sites and many hosts install them automatically. Paid certificates run NPR 3,000 to 15,000 a year and mostly matter for organisation validation. A site without HTTPS shows browser warnings and damages trust and search performance.

Business email

Option

Annual cost (NPR) per user

Email bundled with hosting

0 to 1,500

Zoho Mail (paid tiers)

3,000 to 6,000

Google Workspace

8,000 to 15,000

Check pricing in your account at purchase. Cloud tools bill in dollars and the rupee price moves with the exchange rate.

Maintenance and support

A website is software. It needs updates, backups and monitoring.

Plan

Monthly cost (NPR)

Usually includes

Basic

2,000 to 5,000

Core and plugin updates, backups, uptime monitoring

Standard

5,000 to 15,000

Premium

15,000 to 40,000

Standard plus performance work, SEO tasks, new features

Enterprise

40,000+

Dedicated support, response times, monitoring around the clock

If you do not pay for maintenance, you pay later, usually with a hacked site or a broken checkout on the worst possible day.

VAT, TDS and invoices

This is the part most Nepal cost guides skip, and it changes the number you actually pay.

  • VAT in Nepal is 13% on most goods and services. Web development and hosting supplied inside Nepal are generally taxable. Services supplied to customers outside Nepal are typically zero-rated.
  • VAT registration is required once a business crosses the annual turnover threshold for services, or if it registers voluntarily. A vendor who is not VAT registered cannot charge VAT, but then you also cannot claim it back.
  • Tax deducted at source (TDS): when a business pays for services, it may have to withhold tax. Published summaries of Nepal's rules put TDS on service fees at 1.5% if the provider is VAT registered and 15% if the provider is not. Your accountant should confirm the rate for your situation.

What this means for a quote:

Question to ask

Why it matters

"Is this price inclusive or exclusive of VAT?"

A NPR 100,000 quote can become NPR 113,000

"Will you issue a VAT invoice?"

You need one to claim input VAT credit

"Is the vendor VAT registered?"

It changes the TDS rate you must deduct

"Is hosting and the domain on the same invoice?"

Third-party renewals are often billed separately

This section is general information, not tax advice. Tax rules change. Confirm with a qualified accountant or the Inland Revenue Department.

Example: a NPR 79,999 Standard Website with 13% VAT adds about NPR 10,400, for a total near NPR 90,400 before TDS adjustments.

Hidden costs nobody puts in the quote

Three worked budgets

Abstract ranges are hard to plan with. Here are three complete year-one budgets built from our published packages and the cost tables above. Numbers are illustrative and assume:

  • Prices are in NPR and exclude VAT, except for the VAT line.
  • VAT is shown only on the base development package, to keep the example simple. In real life other invoices may carry VAT too.
  • The extra items (photography, gateways, hosting tier) are assumptions, not quotes.

Notice the pattern in all three. The build is roughly half of the year-one spend. The other half is everything around it. That is why the cheapest build is not always the cheapest year.

Is a website worth the money? A simple break-even check

Here is a rough way to test it. This is a hypothetical, not a promise of results.

Take Budget 1, the clinic. Year-one cost is NPR 136,799. Suppose the website brings in 4 additional new patients a month, and the average first-visit revenue is NPR 3,000.

Step

Calculation

Result (NPR)

Extra monthly revenue

4 x 3,000

12,000

Extra yearly revenue

12,000 x 12

144,000

Year-one cost

136,799

Year-one net

144,000 minus 136,799

7,201

Year-two cost

54,000

Year-two net (same patients)

144,000 minus 54,000

90,000

Change the inputs for your business. If one new customer is worth NPR 50,000, the site pays for itself with a handful of enquiries. If it is worth NPR 500, you need volume, and an online store may make more sense than a brochure site.

Two honest caveats. A new website does not bring customers on its own. It converts the people who already find you, and it gives search engines something to rank. That is why many businesses pair a site with local SEO, which we cover further down. Also, results depend on your market, your competitors and your service quality. We cannot predict yours.

Red flags in cheap quotes

Cheap is not automatically bad. Hidden shortcuts are. These warning signs are worth taking seriously.

Red flag

What can go wrong

"Full website for NPR 5,000 in two days"

Pirated or "nulled" themes, copied designs, malware risk

No written scope or itemised quote

Disputes later about what was included

Domain or hosting registered in the developer's name

You cannot move or control your own site

No admin login handed over at launch

You are locked in to the developer

No mention of mobile testing

The site looks broken on common phones

No backups or staging site

One update can break the live site

Vague answer on revisions

Endless changes billed by the hour

Source code and design files not included

You cannot hire anyone else to continue the work

Everything paid upfront

No leverage if work stalls

Guaranteed number one Google ranking

No honest vendor can promise this

A healthy payment structure is milestone-based, for example a deposit, a payment on design approval and a final payment on launch. Exact percentages vary, so agree them in writing.

How to get an accurate quote

Vendors can only quote what they understand. A good brief takes an hour to write and often saves weeks.

What to prepare

Item

Why it matters

Goal of the site (leads, sales, bookings, information)

Decides the structure and features

Rough sitemap (list of pages)

Drives the page count

3 to 5 websites you like and what you like about them

Shows design taste without long explanations

Features list, split into must-have and nice-to-have

Lets the vendor phase the work

Who will provide content, and by when

Content delays are the top cause of late launches

Budget range

Saves both sides time, and a vendor can then propose a scope that fits

Existing assets (logo, brand colours, photography)

Prevents duplicate spend

Languages needed (English, Nepali, both)

Changes the build and the content cost

Payment methods and shipping needs

Determines integrations

Deadline and why it matters

Rush fees depend on this

Eight questions to ask every vendor

  1. Can I see three live projects similar to mine?
  2. What exactly is included in the price, and what costs extra?
  3. Who owns the domain, hosting account, design files and source code after launch?
  4. How many revision rounds are included, and what happens after that?
  5. What technology will you use and why?
  6. How do you test on mobile and on slower connections?
  7. What support do I get after launch, and for how long?
  8. What is the payment schedule, and is VAT included?

If the answers are vague, the final bill will be too.

How to lower the cost without hurting quality

You do not need to cut corners to reduce spend. You need to decide what can wait.

Tactic

Typical saving

Trade-off

Launch a smaller first version, then add features

30% to 50% of the upfront cost

You pay in phases, so plan the roadmap

Use WordPress when the project fits it

20% to 40% against custom code

Less flexibility for unusual features

Supply your own copy and photos

10,000 to 50,000

Takes your time, quality depends on you

Reuse your existing brand assets

Avoids a rebrand

Weak branding limits the design

Bundle design, development and SEO with one provider

15% to 25%

You depend on one vendor

Accept a standard layout for secondary pages

10% to 20%

Less unique

Choose a realistic deadline

Avoids 20% to 40% rush fees

Slower start

Redesign instead of rebuilding from scratch

Often 30% to 60% less

Only works if the foundation is sound. See website redesign

Pick the right tool: do not custom-build what a plugin does well

Significant

Plugins need maintenance

Savings figures are indicative and depend on the project.

A tip we repeat to clients: spend on structure, speed and the pages that win customers. Save on animations, extra sliders and pages nobody visits.

How we price and build at AlpineRoot

AlpineRoot Technologies is a Kathmandu-based IT company working with startups, SMEs and established businesses in Nepal and abroad. Website development sits alongside SEO, ecommerce, branding and mobile apps. You can read more on About, Mission and Values and How We Work.

Pricing. Our standard packages are published on the pricing page. Larger or unusual projects, such as custom integrations, booking systems and mobile apps, are scoped in a discovery step and quoted separately.

Process. The usual flow is discovery and requirements, scope, design, development, testing and QA, deployment and handover. For CMS projects, clients receive training so they can manage supported content themselves. The full flow is on the How We Work page.

Evidence you can check yourself. We do not ask you to take our word for it. Reviews are on third-party platforms:

Platform

What it shows at the time of writing

Clutch

5.0 out of 5 from 6 reviews

The Manifest

5.0 out of 5 from 6 reviews

GoodFirms

Verified 5.0 reviews

Sortlist

5.0 out of 5 from 10 reviews

We are a young company, founded in 2025, so our track record is shorter than agencies that have operated for a decade. The reviews are the evidence we offer, and client-reported results on Clutch are client statements, not independent audits. Our reviews page collects them, and the portfolio shows the work.

Where we may not be the right fit. If you need a NPR 8,000 template site this week, we are probably not your vendor. If you want a freelancer for a small personal site, a good independent developer may serve you better. If you need a website tied to search growth, local SEO, ecommerce or a custom build, that is where we are strongest.

What to budget after launch

A website that nobody finds is an expensive brochure. Plan for visibility from the start.

After-launch item

Typical cost (NPR)

Why

Maintenance

2,000 to 15,000 per month

Updates, backups, security

Content updates

5,000 to 30,000 per month

Fresh pages and posts give search engines something to index

SEO services

Quoted monthly, see SEO pricing in Nepal

Technical fixes, content, links

Local SEO

Often a smaller monthly scope

Google Business Profile, citations, location pages

Paid ads

Your choice of budget

Faster traffic while organic grows

Analytics and reporting

Often part of SEO

Shows what actually brings customers

SEO set up during the build is cheaper than SEO bolted on later. Titles, headings, URL structure, internal links, schema and page speed are all easier to get right before launch. If your site is already live and underperforming, a technical SEO review is a sensible first step, and for service businesses in Kathmandu or Pokhara see our Kathmandu and Pokhara pages.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a website cost in Nepal in 2026?

A small business website usually costs NPR 35,000 to NPR 160,000. Landing pages can be as low as NPR 10,000, online stores typically run NPR 50,000 to NPR 300,000, and custom web applications start near NPR 300,000. Add domain, hosting, email and maintenance on top, plus 13% VAT where it applies.

What is the cheapest website you can get in Nepal?

A basic template site or landing page can cost NPR 5,000 to NPR 20,000 from a beginner freelancer, or less on a DIY builder. Price is only part of the story. Check that you own the domain, can log in as admin, and that the site works well on mobile.

How much does a website cost per month in Nepal?

After the build, expect hosting, domain and email at roughly NPR 1,500 to NPR 5,000 per month averaged out, and maintenance of NPR 2,000 to NPR 15,000 per month. Hosted builders such as Shopify or Wix charge a monthly platform fee instead.

Why do website quotes in Nepal vary so much?

Because the scope behind the quote varies. Two vendors may price different page counts, different design depth, different testing and different support. One may include SEO setup, mobile testing and training, while another does not. Compare line items, not totals.

How much does a WordPress website cost in Nepal?

WordPress sites run from about NPR 20,000 for a simple site to NPR 140,000 for a custom design with multilingual support and integrations. Our published range is NPR 19,999 to NPR 139,999. A full breakdown is in our WordPress website cost in Nepal guide.

How much does an ecommerce website cost in Nepal?

Most online stores cost NPR 50,000 to NPR 300,000. A starter store with 10 products is at the low end, and a custom store with filters, accounts and integrations is at the high end. Marketplaces with multiple vendors cost far more. See ecommerce website cost in Nepal and our ecommerce development service.

How long does it take to build a website in Nepal?

A landing page takes days. A 5 to 10 page business website takes two to five weeks. Online stores take four to ten weeks. Custom applications take three to six months or more. Late content from the client is the most common reason for delay.

Is it cheaper to hire a freelancer or an agency?

A freelancer is usually cheaper for a straightforward site. An agency costs more but brings a team, contracts and continuity. For a revenue-critical site with design, development and SEO needs, the extra cost often pays for itself. Our vendor comparison explains what to check.

How much does domain registration cost in Nepal?

A .com domain generally costs NPR 1,500 to NPR 2,400 per year. A .com.np domain has been free for eligible Nepali entities, but the policy has been under review, so confirm the current fee on the official registry before relying on it.

How much does website hosting cost in Nepal?

Shared hosting is roughly NPR 2,000 to NPR 8,000 a year. Managed WordPress or international shared hosting runs NPR 5,000 to NPR 20,000. VPS is NPR 12,000 to NPR 60,000, and cloud hosting for custom apps starts around NPR 20,000 and can be much higher.

Do I have to pay VAT on a website in Nepal?

If the vendor is VAT registered, yes: 13% VAT applies to domestic web development services, and you can usually claim input credit if you are VAT registered too. Always ask whether a quote includes VAT. Confirm with your accountant.

What are the hidden costs of a website?

Premium plugins and themes, business email, photography, copywriting, translation, payment gateway setup, SMS fees, staff training, rush fees and post-launch changes. A NPR 80,000 quote can reach NPR 150,000 once these appear.

Can I get a website in Nepal for free?

You can build a free site on a platform such as WordPress.com or Wix, but you will have a platform subdomain, limited features and sometimes adverts. For a business, a custom domain and proper hosting are the sensible minimum.

Is a Facebook page enough instead of a website?

A Facebook page is a useful channel. It is not a replacement. You do not control the platform, you cannot rank in Google the same way, and you cannot build a proper enquiry or checkout flow. Many businesses use both.

Does the website price include SEO?

Basic SEO setup, meaning titles, headings, speed and analytics, is often included. Ongoing SEO, such as content, link building and local SEO, is a separate monthly service. See SEO services in Nepal and SEO pricing in Nepal.

Do I own the website after it is built?

You should. Insist on a written agreement that the domain, hosting account, design files and source code are yours, apart from licensed third-party themes and plugins. Ask for the admin logins at handover.

How much does a Nepali-language website cost?

A bilingual Nepali and English site typically adds NPR 15,000 to NPR 40,000 for setup, plus translation. Translation of NPR 800 to NPR 3,000 per page is common. The work includes Unicode font testing and checking layouts, because Nepali text can behave differently from English.

How much does a website redesign cost?

A basic refresh starts around NPR 30,000, a full redesign around NPR 70,000, and a complete overhaul with new CMS and UX work around NPR 160,000. See website redesign in Nepal.

How much does a hotel website cost in Nepal?

A hotel site with strong photography and direct booking usually costs NPR 100,000 to NPR 450,000, depending on the booking engine, languages and integrations. See our hotel industry page and Pokhara hotel website development.

Should I build a website or a mobile app first?

For most businesses, a website first. It is cheaper, reachable through search, and works on every device. Apps make sense when you need device features, frequent repeat use or push notifications. See mobile app development cost in Nepal and our mobile app development service.

What should I pay upfront?

Practice varies, but milestone-based payments are the safest: a deposit to start, a payment on design approval and a final payment on launch. Avoid paying everything upfront, and get the schedule in writing.

How do I get an accurate quote from AlpineRoot?

Send your page list, goals, features and deadline through the contact page. For standard sites, the published pricing gives a starting point. Custom features are scoped in discovery and quoted separately.

How we put this guide together

How we put this guide together

Sources and method. Market ranges combine published 2026 Nepal price guides (including those from Kokil Thapa, WebsNP, Arjan KC and Bisup), pricing from our own packages, and what we see in project scoping. Where sources disagreed, we widened the range instead of picking a favourite. Tax details draw on published summaries of Nepal's VAT and withholding rules, including legal insights from Axion Partners alongside guidance on local and FDI company taxation. Domain information comes from registrar guides and the Nepali Telecom report on the proposed domain fee change.

What the numbers are not. They are indicative ranges, not a rate card or a promise. Add-on estimates, the industry ranges and the savings percentages are our estimates from typical scopes. Exchange rates, taxes and platform prices change, so verify anything you plan to budget around.
